David Shrobe - Multi-media Arist
David Shrobe was born in the Lower East Side of New York City. David has exhibited his paintings in exhibitions from Rush Arts Gallery in New York City to Bettie Morton Gallery in Brixton London. His work has appeared on MTV and has also been featured in magazines and newspapers.
I create art to go through boundaries. My life takes shape and form on the canvas. My artistic expression comes from my individual experience, culture and environment, with an effort to express my attitude toward the world.
When I apply paint to the canvas, I leave my artist hand left to itself, which creates the image I want. Pouring paint, using my fingers, bold brush strokes, cutting and pasting is how I create my art. The decisions I make while painting are made on the basis of feeling and intuition. My painting is a reality among realities, which has been felt and formed.
My recent work fuses elements of Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art and Graffiti to express my individual urban idealism. The relationships between objects within the visual realm are rendered through the use of line and vivid color. Combining organic forms with aspects of urban street life to create a visual dialogue, that takes the viewer on a journey through the unexpected, just like life.
My most recent work has re-entered the realm of the social and political. Commenting on the social cruelty throughout the United states and around the world. Inspired by issues such as race, police brutality, the influence of mass media, Hurricane Katrina, the wars the middle east, and the genocide in Darfur.
